OK, so perhaps I’m talking too much about this… I have some thoughts regarding the whole GMA thing. Some observations…
Many artists are on the short side of being tall. Walking around the whole place, lots of artists, real and/or wannabe. Lots of hair products, the fauxhawk lives! Either that or the whole longish hair/beard thing. Not many girl artists. Lots of bands. Or maybe it was solo artists with their entourage. But, many of them were short. Interesting…
Also, more black people than I remember in the past. Not to be mentioned as anything related to racism, just an observation. I think it’s pretty cool! Perhaps black gospel is a stronger entity than those of us in the “white” ccm would understand.
Overall, the GMA community seems to be less “trying to be like” and more accepting of who they are. For years, perhaps decades, the CCM/GMA community has wanted to be like the mainstream side. Perhaps even trying too hard. And, it does seem that CCM music is still 5+ years behind what the mainstream community does. However, it feels like the community is more embracing of who they are rather than trying to make excuses. In fact, the people I typically hang out with (industry types, not artists), who are usually very negative about the industry, seemed to be less negative this year. Interesting…
So, that’s that. Still lots of pretentiousness. And posturing. And the “GMA Handshake”. It’s still GMA!
