Lots of stuff happening fast today! In my dwelling on the possibility with BGI, I’ve talked with God. Lots. And in keeping with the philosophy of not pitting one job against the other (as in going in to Gary to demand a raise telling him about another opportunity), I asked God to provide an opportunity at ID/CertiTech, if I was to get one, prior to anything with Richard. Basically, I would only stay at my current position if 1). the offer from Richard was questionable in any way and/or 2). If I was given an opportunity for promotion/pay raise/whatever here…
So, here at the 11th hour, God provides something! Not sure how I feel right now. Great! Sorta. Overall, I want an opportunity to succeed, be given the opportunity to use my skills, gifts, talents, etc. Have a workplace that is busy and demanding yet somewhat laid back and loose. The chance to provide for my family including good benefits and salary. The ability to get out of debt. And the possibility for you to work less if at all in the near future. Am I asking too much?
There’s been some restructuring here at MSE Audio Group. Chris stepped down running things day-to-day and another guy, Hal is now our president. He’s a really nice guy, though I don’t know him very well (met him at CES, seen him a couple of times here. His office is at the MultiService building). Gary is stepping back to 20 hours/week. One of the Phase Tech sales guys is resigning… Also, CertiTech is struggling (on paper). So, I play into all this. They want me to take over some of the sales stuff, basically making sure the sales reps are kept in contact with/etc. This part I like. It’s selling the guys who are selling our stuff to sell more of our stuff. It’s general contact/communication stuff. Not cold sales calls or any direct sales at all. I’d have to travel a bit. 3-4 days/month. To hang with the Sales Rep guys as they make calls to dealers (at that point, I’d be talking, face-to-face with dealers about our products/etc.). Kissing babies stuff. Perhaps I’ll switch to politics. I’d also be working with Gary and Hal on administration stuff (reports, email blasts, etc.). Still not exactly sure of all it would entail, but, it’s an expansion of what I’m doing now (don’t get me started!).
I asked a few questions including if this were seen as a promotion. Gary responded that anytime more responsibilities are added like this, it is considered a promotion. He indicated that this would put me well beyond where I was when I walked in the door. And that it puts me in a great place in the company. Not sure if that’s lip service to get me to do more grunt work or if that’s reality. So far, all I’ve really wanted here was more work anyway! And maybe a new home theater audio system. Maybe I can negotiate that as well! I asked about pay raise/commission/etc. and he indicated that that’s basically up to Hal and he generally knows what Hal is thinking, but he’s not at liberty to say. I asked when I’d know about stuff like that and he indicated that we’d know by the end of the week.
So, Gary asked if I were interested. What do I say? “Sure!” What can I say?!? In a “need-to-know” situation, that’s all I can say right now. And then I ask for an early and longer lunch hour for my appointment.
So, at 2:30 this afternoon, I will be a part of a conference call where this promotion is announced to the powers at be.
That gives God plenty of time to work in my life!
Not sure if that tells it all, but it’s close.
Lots of fun!
