I sit here in Panera doing some actual work and re-discovering some things about myself that might, just might relate to my current and future employment search…

I have a hard time working from home. I used to (15 years ago) be able to crank out the stuff from home. I’d sit in the office and crank out letters and stuff on my PowerMac 6100 until the wee hours of the evening/night. And all was well. Too many distractions now. I tend to work semi-well with distractions around me. In fact, I work better with noise/music/activity around me than in quiet. But not the distractions that home is now. Maybe some day it’ll work out again for me. I need to find “my place” and go there while still unemployed to get my work done.

I love working with people for people. My “alone time” here at Panera is fine for cranking out some email and working on some marketing stuff, but, I thrive best working with others for others. I need the accountability that other people provide. I am self-motivated, to a point. But given the choice, I’d generally rather snuggle with my kid(s). Not bad at all, but not good in the scope of trying to get things done.

So, if anyone reading this (all 3 of you!) can help, I’m all ears.

Neil, maybe we should chat it up…
