Last week was Parent/Teacher Conference days. Perhaps I’m a little strange, but, I like Parent/Teacher Conferences. Our teachers are really great and they can typically be contacted at any time. And, hopefully, they would contact us if there were a major issue. And to be fair (and a little bragging here), my kids are pretty good students. That all said, it’s still good to have some dedicated time with the teachers where we get to discuss some of the positive things and hear some challenging things about the kids.
One of the things I noticed this year was the impact our kids are having on their environment. At each conference and with each teacher, we typically got the “The FUNKS!” as we approached them. A smile came across the teachers faces and they were pleased to talk with us about their experience with our kids.
We have made the concerted effort to have our kids attend public school. It’s a choice that many parents have to consider as their kids head off to school. And even after making those decisions, there are times when that decision is reviewed. We know many people who home school their kids or send them to private Christian school. And, again, that is a personal decision that requires one to consider what is best for their kids and their situation. We just choose to send our kids to public school.
And so, I restate, it was interesting to see how our kids are impacting their environment. Yes, they are being taught by some teachers who don’t necessarily share our viewpoint on the world. And yes, they have an impact on our kids. But, guess, what? Our kids are having an impact on THEM! It’s clear to see how that influence is making an impact. It might not be life changing, but, it’s definitely having an impact.
