On one hand, I emphasize for small(ish) church worship music teams. Leadership is overworked, so there is a high chance of burnout. Some volunteers are also overworked and thus, have burnout. There are some volunteers who can “fix” issues, but, alas aren’t given the chance or suffer from apathy.
Then there’s the complete willingness to be satisfied with crap.
I heard the words, “it’s rough, but…” following the last rehearsal on a recent Sunday morning prior to worship service. Coming from the mouth of the leader for that Sunday’s music.
Seriously? Are we (you?!?) really ok with that? Are we satisfied with “rough” as the bar for what we expect in worship music? If it’s rough, fix it! Fix it by rehearsing. Fix it by calling an audible. Fix it by making a change. Some change. Are we (you) expecting Jesus to come down and fix it miraculously? Not that He couldn’t, mind you. But, being willing to just be ok with “rough”? Seriously? Makes me sick.
rant to be continued about church worship music…
