Over the past several years, I’ve felt that God is “preparing me for something big” in the future. we are told throughout life to “name it and claim it.” We are encouraged to set goals and then go after them. And, as I’ve talked about here before, we hold in high esteem those people who set those goals and then reach them. We call that “success.”
But I am reminded today, again by Oswald, that this should not be my focus:
We have the idea that God is leading us toward a particular end or a desired goal, but He is not. The question of whether or not we arrive at a particular goal is of little importance, and reaching it becomes merely an episode along the way. What we see as only the process of reaching a particular end, God sees as the goal itself.
We are to trust and follow God in the NOW. Not be focused on what He has for us in the future. I’ve recently been reminded of one of my mottos, “do the best you can with what God has given you”. That statement lives in the now. Ultimately, it’s about obedience, As Oswald finishes:
However, if we realize that moment-by-moment obedience is the goal, then each moment as it comes is precious.
