I’ve recently become aware of some of “my” greatest work. Though I would like to think it’s any number of “things” I’ve done, it’s not. And yes, many of those things are grand and glorious. Even altruistic. Helping my fellow man in various things. Putting my skills, talents and interests to work to further myself or even the Kingdom. And though all good, they still aren’t my greatest work.

It’s people. Just living in relationship with others. I don’t think we understand the impact we have on others. Daily. Unless we are holed up in the woods, we have the incredible opportunity to impact others every day. Sometimes that’s through a chance meeting. Or a neighbor down the street. Or something on a deeper level with a select few. What we do and how we respond can have a lifelong impact on the people we come into contact with.

Perhaps the mere mention of this removes the impact it can have. Yet, I felt compelled to write about it as it’s something I have felt for a while and even stronger recently. And then, of course, Ozzy has something to say about it today:

The true test of a saint’s life is not successfulness but faithfulness on the human level of life. We tend to set up success in Christian work as our purpose, but our purpose should be to display the glory of God in human life, to live a life “hidden with Christ in God” in our everyday human conditions. Our human relationships are the very conditions in which the ideal life of God should be exhibited.

Maybe the greatest life we can live IS living for Him in the mundane of the everyday…
