Ok, so were back home now, 3 1/2 years since we made the trek back to our stomping grounds. And it’s been good. Very good. We’ve re-connected with old friends, made some new ones and been able to see family more than we would have otherwise. And church. Back involved in my boyhood home church. That’s definitely a good thing. And now, true to form, I’m involved in many church committees, sub-committees and ad hoc committees.

We’ve worked on a new vision statement for the church and some new models to employ. And then I look around… Our key words are “connect, serve and grow” or as is official, “connecting with Jesus, growing in Jesus, and serving for Jesus.” It works. I’m not necessarily big on vision statements, but, it’s a church. A church can’t exist whtout a vision statement.

So, looking around, we’ve picked on the buzzwords that many churches are using. Connect and Serve especially. Both good words. Both very applicable and “necessary” for the local church. SO I sit in these meetings and listen ot people have these great ideas about how to live out those words. And they came up with things that many churches are doing or have already done. I realize that just because we didn’t think of it first and juts because others are doing it doesn’t preclude us from doing the same things. But, it sure feels like a “me too” situation.

This begs the question, are we joining God in His work or are we just doing what everyone else is doing?
