On the way to Wichita this evening (that’s a story to soon be disclosed) we stopped at the toll booth to inquire about paying the Turpike Fare on a debit card. The collector said we could pay with almost anything. I asked if we could pay with a kid (though we actually didn’t have any with us at the time). He then went on to chat and chat and…

“Our kids were never (rarely) in trouble. Perhaps it’s because there was always the tinge of fear of me. They weren’t allowed to smoke or drink. If they wrecked their car, they wouldn’t drive. Actually, it wasn’t that bad. We just ended up throwing money at whatever they were into. My son was into Studebakers. My daughter into horses. So, we ended up with lots of cars to work on and 10 horses. I’ll end up broke or in debt and it’s probably because of this, but, all my 4 kids have college degrees. It was worth it.”

Never heard real life realization of Proverbs 22:6 like that before.

  1. I must be a ‘glass half empty guy’…unless the collectors goal in life was to be working 3rd shift at the tool booth as a 2nd job?! then it seems to me that maybe this is more Proverbs 22:7 then 22:6. But he did say it was worth it…so maybe his own kids are going in the ‘way they should go’?!…college does not always mean success.
