Ultimately it boils down to one thing. My heart.

Where is my heart in all this? Am I allowing God to work in my life, regardless of the situation? Can I be so in tune with God that it doesn’t matter what’s going on around me? Whether the lights are quartz halogen or compact fluorescent? Whether there’s an organ or an acoustic guitar? On pitch or off?

In recent conversation, we came to that general conclusion. It’s not at all about any external factor, it’s about an internal position or even an internal decision. How am I going to respond to what God has placed on my heart?

I think if we strive for excellence in “performance” and in the practice of worship as participants, then we will find a “perfect storm” where we can experience God in many incredible ways. Yes, we ARE influenced by external factors. But, is my heart prepared for what God has for me, even if those factors aren’t all lined up perfectly? And in lining up those factors, have we sought to serve God with excellence or are we in the “good enough” camp?

I think God honors people who worship Him wholeheartedly. From any position. From any location. We can’t just explain away something we don’t understand. And we can’t argue against excellence just because we’re too lazy to give it our best. I think it’s a “both and” thing.

So, where is my heart?
