I’m reading “Chosen By God” with my Monday morning reading group. Pretty interesting stuff. Basically, it’s supporting the position of predestination. I have generally been a free will sort of guy. As I have told others about reading the book, they exclaim, “if we aren’t given free choice, then what’s the point? It’s all just fate, so why even try?” It’s actually a bit more complicated than that. We have a hard time supporting a position where God chooses whom He saves and whom He doesn’t. However, as we have ALL sinned and fall short, the mere fact that He saves some is already better than “all”. It much deeper than what I’m saying here. I’m still trying to figure it out and what it means for me.
The free side of me not only wants to make my own choices, I also want to not even have to ask the question. As I am faced with a challenge, rather than asking God what I should do, I sometimes tend to err on the side of acting. Why bother God with silly questions? It’s not that I don’t think He will answer in my favor, it’s just that the free side doesn’t even want to know. How bad is that? Fortunately it’s not a life pattern going on here… At least I pray it isn’t.
