Not necessarily a big fan of “public” fasting. CBC is doing a fast today to help give us insight and direction on where the church should head. Several people, in fact more than I expected, showed up for the pre-fast celebration last night. Don’t get me wrong, I think corporate events like this are great. Unfortunately, people make it “about the food” so today at work, where several CBC people work and are participating, I was offered “food flavored lip balm”.
Perhaps I am too literal? Perhaps legalistic? Perhaps too old? I guess I prefer to follow the Matthew 6 example:
16 “When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18 so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Ok, I’ll get over myself. Thanks for speaking to us, to me, even in times where we miss some of the point.
