… is the problem of “me”. I remember today’s Ozzy from last year and find myself not too different from a year ago. This quote cut thru the core:
Beware of refusing to go to the funeral of your own independence.
Ozzy thought of “good is the enemy of great” long before Jim Collins was born. However, in Collins’ case, he’s talking business. Ozzy is talking God. How often have I allowed what’s “good” to stand in the way of my relationship with God? God doesn’t care how many “good” things I do. He cares about my “giving up my right to myself” as Ozzy puts it.
Ugh. This sure doesn’t help in my quest for what’s next in my life. It seems as if I “must” pursue something. Pursuing “just” God seems a little “unwise”.
Huh?
(sorry for all the quotes today)
Unwise?
How can I make that leap from my good to God’s best? A fine line with a wide chasm, if that’s possible.
I generally think Ozzy understands that the concept is fairly simple, yet the following of that concept isn’t so easy.
The things that are right, noble, and good from the natural standpoint are the very things that keep us from being God’s best. Once we come to understand that natural moral excellence opposes or counteracts surrender to God, we bring our soul into the center of its greatest battle.
May the quest, the quest for God’s best continue.
